needs of homeless individuals and families.
The State of Homelessness in Michigan 2008 Annual Summary reports that there are 86,189 homeless people in Michigan. A few additional facts:
- Since the 2007 count of 78,266, there has been an increase of 10.1% homeless people in Michigan
- In 69% of homeless families, a single female is the head of the household
- 54% of homeless persons in families are children
- 19% of homeless adults reported as being disabled
- Average age of homeless adults is 32.7 years old
- Average age of homeless children is 7.6 years old
- 42% reported being homeless for the first time in 2008
