Programs & Services

From assistance in applying for a new access point to implementing health information technology to developing academic partnerships, Michigan Primary Care Association administers numerous programs and services to promote, support, and develop comprehensive, accessible, affordable, quality primary and preventive health care at Michigan Community Health Centers. These programs and services further the ever-expanding belief that Community Health Centers are the right answer to many critical challenges that communities are facing today.

Community Health Centers Make a Difference:

  • Provide more effective care  Health Center patients have lower hospital admission rates and shorter hospital stays than patients who access care elsewhere, and they make more appropriate use of emergency room services - this saves communities money
  • Provide high quality care  Studies show the quality of care provided at Health Centers is equal to or greater than care provided elsewhere
  • Improve health outcomes  Where there is a Health Center, the health of the community is improved; for example, communities served by Community Health Centers have infant mortality rates that are at least 10% lower than comparable communities not served by Community Health Centers
  • Provide better use of preventive care  Health Centers have significantly increased the use of preventive health services among the populations they serve and have substantially increased the number of immunized children
  • Provide cost effective care  Based on a recent Cost Effectiveness of Health Centers in Michigan, Michigan Community Health Centers save the State of Michigan $44.87 per member per month in State Medicaid expenditures; medical expenses for Health Center patients are 41% lower compared to patients seen elsewhere
  • Create jobs and an economic base  Community Health Centers play an important role in the economic well-being of a community and collectively in the state; the estimated overall economic impact of Community Health Centers on Michigan’s economy is over $323 million, and Michigan Community Health Centers employ approximately 2,977 positions
  • Satisfy patients  In aggregated data form patient satisfaction surveys conducted by the MidWest Clinicians’ Network in 2009, 96.8% of patients surveyed described the treatment and advice they received from providers at Community Health Centers as good or excellent, and 96.9% reported that they would recommend their Health Center to friends and family
