Michigan Primary Care Association joins Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to create a webinar-based clinician education program including elements of Physician Asthma Care Education (PACE), an evidence-based UM-CMCD physician education program. The new two-part webinar program will emphasize cultural competence and problem-based learning to improve asthma knowledge, guidelines-based care, and clinician-patient communication.

Overview

Michigan Primary Care Association joins Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to create a webinar-based clinical education program including elements of Physician Asthma Care Education (PACE), an evidence-based UM-CMCD physician education program. The new two-part webinar program will emphasize cultural competence and problem-based learning to improve asthma knowledge, guidelines-based care, and clinician-patient communication.

  

  

Learning Objectives

  • Advance understanding of asthma epidemiology in US and Michigan
  • Advance knowledge of disease pathophysiology and appropriate asthma diagnostic tools, including spirometry
  • Augment knowledge and familiarity with the therapeutic options and delivery systems for the various medications used to treat airway inflammation.
  • Increase ability to apply guideline-recommended treatment strategies into patient care.
  • Improve ability to enhance communication, identify cultural and other barriers to enhance adherence in asthma care and implement effective strategies to enhance the patient’s ability to comply with the recommended treatment regimens.

  • Webinar 2: Review session 1. Present case highlighting communication and behavioral challenges in the treatment of asthma. Provide current strategies and outcome expectations in addressing asthma-related cultural competency and effective communication in the medical home

 

Continuing Education 

 Applications for CE credits will be filed with American Academy of Family Physicians. (one CE credit per webinar).
