Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) Director James Haveman presented to both the House and Senate Community Health Appropriations Subcommittees this week the department's Fiscal Year 2015 budget as included in Governor's Snyder's budget proposal.

During his presentation, Director Haveman highlighted that health care is an economic force in Michigan. He presented MDCH's strategic priorities for 2014; shared statistics and details about MDCH's services; and gave an update on the status of Fiscal Year 2014 initiatives including implementation of the Healthy Michigan Plan. MDCH is in the process of moving about 65,000 people who are currently covered under a County Health Plan through Michigan's Adult Benefits Waiver to the Healthy Michigan Plan. The department is also negotiating contracts with health plan providers, and preparing the robust infrastructure to support enrollment in the Plan. MDCH anticipates opening enrollment in April, but has not identified a specific date citing the desire "to do it right."
