MPCA Response to MDCH Announcement on Healthy Michigan Plan Open Enrollment Beginning April 1

LANSING, Mich. – The following statement is attributed to Michigan Primary Care
Association’s Chief Executive Officer Kim Sibilsky as it relates to the
Michigan Department of Community Health’s announcement that enrollment
in the Healthy Michigan Plan will begin April 1.
Michigan Primary Care Association applauds the recent announcement
from the Michigan Department of Community Health and Governor Rick
Snyder that enrollment for the Healthy Michigan Plan, the state’s expanded Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act, will begin on April 1, 2014.
"Through their tireless efforts to implement the Healthy Michigan
Plan, the Michigan Department of Community Health, Governor Snyder, and
the Michigan Legislature are ensuring that health insurance coverage is
extended to low-income working adults in our state who are most in need
because they are currently uninsured or underinsured,” said Kim
Sibilsky, Chief Executive Officer, Michigan Primary Care Association.
"This is one more step toward ensuring all Michigan residents have
access to comprehensive, accessible, and affordable health care, the
foundation on which Health Centers were established nearly 50 years
By having coverage under this innovative plan beginning April 1,
nearly half a million Michiganders will ultimately benefit from
increased access to primary and preventive health care. This new health
insurance program will generate many positive outcomes for a healthier
Michigan, including healthier individuals, families, and communities, as
well as significant economic benefits for Michigan taxpayers,
employers, and the state budget for years to come.
Michigan Primary Care Association looks forward to continuing
collaborative partnerships across the state as we support Michigan
Health Centers in their work to educate and assist newly eligible
Michiganders in enrolling in the Healthy Michigan Plan.
