U.S. House Passes HR 2—Now Your U.S. Senators Need to Hear from You
Tuesday, March 31, 2015
In a whirlwind of activity last week, the power of grassroots advocacy made its mark. On March 25, U.S. House leaders introduced bipartisan legislation to permanently replace Medicare's Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula. The historic legislation extends $7.2 billion in mandatory funding over two years for Health Centers and continues funding for the National Health Service Corps and the Teaching Health Centers Program.
The following day, March 26, the full House overwhelmingly passed the Medicare and CHIP Reauthorization Act (HR 2) by a vote of 392-37, with all of Michigan's U.S. Representatives voting Yes with the exception of Representative Justin Amash. If your U.S. Representative voted Yes on HR 2, please click here to thank him/her.
As a result of the incredible bipartisan show of support in the House, the President has publicly stated his support and willingness to sign the bill into law once it arrives on his desk. Health Center advocate calls, emails, and in-person meetings with Members of Congress helped make this happen!
The last step to make HR 2 a reality is passage of HR 2 in the Senate. The Senate has recessed for two weeks and will not vote on HR 2 until after they return to Washington, DC, on April 13. We need to do everything we can over the next two weeks to get a commitment from each Senator that he/she will vote Yes on HR 2. Click here to email your U.S. Senators and request that they vote Yes on HR 2 when they return to Washginton, and mark your calendar to take action on a final Cliff Call-in Day on April 13 when the Senate will take up and vote on HR 2.
