On Monday, May 4, 2015, Northwest Michigan Health Services, Inc. (NMHSI) will host Bill Huizenga, U.S. Second District Representative at their Shelby campus for a tour of the facility and to share the future vision of NMHSI.
“We are excited about sharing the improvements and partnerships we are making at the Clinic with Congressman Huizenga,” states Heidi Britton, CEO, Northwest Michigan Health Services. “Our purpose is to provide quality medical and dental primary care services to the uninsured or under-insured people and families in Michigan.”
On April 14, 2015, the Senate passed H.R. 2 and President Obama signed into law, the Medicare and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015. This law includes mandatory funding for Health Centers as well as for the National Health Service Corps and Teaching Health Centers. “Congressman Huizenga not only supported the passage of H.R. 2, but ensured that NMHSI can continue to serve the over 3,000 patients with access to high quality care.”
NMHSI has been working closely with other agencies across its service area to collaborate and identify available resources for patients and families. NMHSI has invited agency leaders to attend Monday’s event and welcome Congressman Huizenga to Shelby.
NMHSI serves seven counties in Northwest Lower Michigan and is one of 40 Health Centers in Michigan. With locations in Traverse City, Shelby and Bear Lake, NMHSI provides medical, dental, behavioral and mental health services including pediatrics, OB/GYN, Primary Care and Laboratory with an emphasis on providing primary health care and preventative care to Migrant and Seasonal Farm Workers. Nationwide, 23 million patients are served through 1,300 Health Center sites located in over 9,000 communities.
