Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell announced today approximately $101 million in Affordable Care Act funding to support 164 new Health Center sites across the country. The new Health Centers are projected to increase access to health care services for nearly 650,000 patients nationwide.

“Health centers are keystones of the communities they serve,” said Secretary Burwell. “Today’s awards will enable more individuals and families to have access to the affordable, quality health care that Health Centers provide.”

New Access Point grant awards totaling $5,056,209 have been awarded to eight Health Centers in Michigan. With this funding, Health Centers will be able to provide care up to a proposed 28,804 Michigan residents.

Michigan Health Centers are currently health care homes for more than 600,000 people across the state. Health care teams at over 240 Michigan Health Center sites provide high-quality medical, dental, and behavioral health care services, regardless of insurance status or income level. In addition to providing primary care services, Health Centers help patients overcome barriers to accessing care by coordinating services and providing supports such as transportation and translation.
