Supreme Court Holds Subsidies Available on Federal Exchanges
Thursday, June 25, 2015
Michigan officials can breathe a sigh of relief as the U. S. Supreme Court in a 6-3 ruling today has held individuals getting health insurance through the federal exchanges can receive tax subsidies.
The ruling ensures that nearly 300,000 people in Michigan who get health insurance through the federal exchange will still be eligible tax benefits that state officials said averaged slightly more than $270 a year.
It also keeps in place an option the state could use as it seeks a second federal waiver on its Healthy Michigan Medicaid Expansion plan.
