Senator Goeff Hansen to speak at Grand Opening of Oakridge Teen Health Center
Tuesday, January 5, 2016
The partnership between Hackley Community Care and Oakridge Public Schools to build a new Teen Health Center has come to fruition.
The Teen Health Center is open and an Open House celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Thanks to a grant from the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services and the generosity of multiple donors and the community, construction began on 3,600 sq. ft. of space in June of 2015 and was completed in December of 2015. The new Teen Health Center has 3 medical exam rooms, 3 dental operatories, a lab, a nurse station, and mental health office.
The open house event will feature remarks by Senator Goeff Hansen, Mike Gorga, Jack Sugars, the Fazakerley Family and others. Entertainment is being provided by the Oakridge Jazz Band, Student Choir, the 11-Silver Band.
Special recognition will be given to the major donors of this project. The art class has created a special donor wall that will acknowledge other donors and those persons that contributed to our Chef Prize fundraiser on October 4th, 2015 at Hampton Green Farm.
The Teen Center began seeing students just before the Christmas break and will resume seeing students when they return to school in January. Behavioral Health Services were already being provided during the summer of 2015. Fundraising efforts are still underway with the goal to add dental services later in 2016.
The Health Center will serve students during regular school hours and is staffed with a Physician Assistant, nurses, and a Master’s-level Behavioral Health Counselor. These services will coordinate with, and supplement health promotion and health education programs within the school district.
The open house event is open to the public and all are welcome to tour the new facility and meet the staff.
