Michigan Primary Care Association recognizes that good oral health is vital to maintaining strong overall health, and we work to promote programs that increase access to quality oral health care throughout the State of Michigan.

Featured Story: MPCA Advocates for Reinstatement of the Medicaid Adult Dental Benefit

On July 1, 2009, the Medicaid Adult Dental Benefit was eliminated by Executive Order from Governor Jennifer Granholm. In response, MPCA launched a grassroots initiative centered on reinstating this coverage in Michigan which engaged hundreds of advocates and targeted state legislators through a series of compelling postcards and emails. Although the dental benefit hasn't yet been reinstated, there is much hope that new revenue discussions among state legislators working on Michigan's budget will bring oral health care back to thousands of Michigan adults in the upcoming months. The State Is Wasting Money: Eliminating the Medicaid adult dental benefit will save money upfront, but it will end up costing the state, and ultimately the taxpayer, more in the long run.
We Should Learn From The Past: When the Medicaid adult dental benefit was eliminated in 2003, it had a far reaching impact on Michigan's safety net infrastructure.
Oral Health Affects Overall Health: Left untreated, dental disease can cause serious medical conditions and even lead to death.
Tooth Decay Is A Family Problem: The availability of dental care for adults affects the oral health of children.
Dental Disease Has Broad Implications Beyond Oral Health: Reinstatement of the Medicaid adult dental benefit would help to prevent pre-term births and low birth weight.
