MPCA/Kresge Capital Development Program – Planning Assistance and Funds Available
Subsequent to the announcement of HRSA Community Development awards, there has been some moderation in Health Center building project development activity. However, implementation of the Affordable Care Act continues, and many Health Centers will need to plan for additional capacity, whether this involves new facilities, expanded facilities or renovation of existing facilities for greater efficiencies and facility maximization. These are important elements of capital development that can be done prior to major financial commitment to a project.
The MPCA/Kresge Capital Development program has funding to assist in project planning and other predevelopment activities. These activities are very important in a Health Center’s readiness for project development. Health Centers may wish to consider obtaining assistance with strategic readiness (debt capacity; preliminary feasibility assessment; market feasibility; work plan development), operations and facility planning (program and staff; operations; space allocation; new process implementation) and financial planning (financial forecasting; business and finance planning; projection modeling; finance options; lender negotiations). The program can also be helpful in developing material to promote proposed projects and in identifying foundations that may be interested in providing support for either the capital project or proposed new programs.
