Happy National Health Center Week!

National Health Center Week 2015 is officially underway in Michigan and across the country! The weeklong celebration of Health Centers has been proclaimed nationally by President Barack Obama and in Michigan by Governor Rick Snyder.

MPCA salutes Michigan Health Centers for serving as local engines for healthier Michigan communities, and we thank each and every staff member, board member, health care provider, and volunteer for your commitment and dedication to the Health Center mission. Enjoy your celebrations throughout the week!

Did you know that Health Centers across the country provide comprehensive, high quality primary care to more than 24 million patients, including over 7 million children, while saving the health care system $24 billion? Click here to see NACHC’s newly released infographic with additional details. Consider sharing the new infographic as well as this customizable infographic with your community and elected officials throughout National Health Center Week!

Check out the listing of events at to see how your colleagues are celebrating across the state and nationwide. Members of Congress, State Legislators, and other community leaders are attending several Michigan events – a testament to the strong bi-partisan support Health Centers continue to receive.

Be sure to follow MPCA on Facebook and Twitter as we post highlights and pictures of celebrations throughout the week. If you are posting on Facebook and Twitter, please include #NHCW15 and #NHCWMi15 in your posts/tweets, and don’t forget to send pictures and any media coverage your Health Center receives to Alyssa Jones. Also, consider entering the NHCW Picture & Video Contests by submitting an original photo or video before August 21.

Lastly, mark your calendar to participate in a National Health Center Week Teleforum with HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell, Health Center Program Founding Father, Dr. Jack Geiger, and high ranking White House Staff on August 12 at 2 pm ET. You can join the call directly by dialing 1-877-229-8493 and using the pin 15035.

Enjoy the week!

Call for 2015 Clinical Conference Presenters, Posters, Sponsors & Exhibitors

The Michigan Primary Care Association (MPCA) is calling for presenters, posters, sponsors and exhibitors for the 2015 MPCA Clinical Conference scheduled for October 16, 2015, at the Suburban Collection Showcase in Novi, Michigan. This year's theme is Improving Patient Health - It Takes The Whole Team.

The Clinical Conference is intended to include all disciplines within a Health Center and other community safety net providers. The conference is open to any organization. MPCA is developing a comprehensive agenda complete with educational and networking opportunities for oral health providers, behavioral health professionals, pharmacy staff, primary care clinicians and health IT professionals. As the agenda develops, the conference will focus on transitions of care, behavioral health and primary care needs in the management of chronic diseases, quality improvement and the future of payment models, health information technology, providing quality health care for the LGBT population, best practices identified by operational assessments, clinical research in Health Centers, integrated care and an evolving workforce. Each discipline will be addressed during general sessions and various breakout sessions and continuing education credits are available.

If you are interested in being considered as a presenter, exhibiting at the conference, having a poster featured or becoming a sponsor, MPCA is looking to hear from you. Additional information on each opportunity is available below:

A Peek into the 2015 MPCA Annual Conference - Disruptive Innovations

The 2015 MPCA Annual Conference, Disruptive Innovations, will be here before you know it (in 18 days if you're the counting type). And we're hard at work finalizing the agenda for two days of networking and inspiration!

The closing session on Tuesday, September 1, will be a "don't miss" gossip session! This session will not be mean and malicious, but rather smart and quite possibly the best, most disruptive way to foster primary care advocacy. Six-time EMMY® Award winning media coach Shawne Duperon will end the conference with highlighting innovative strategies that create good gossip  - the kind that influences change! This PhD candidate in gossip (yes, gossip!) used gossip theory to make the film's five-minute video go viral, which now reaches millions in social media and even captured an endorsement from Archbishop Desmond and support from Kristen Bell of Frozen. Shawne has recorded a message just for you - take a listen!

If you are a clinician, a must-attend session presented by former DEA Special Agent, Robert M. Stutman, will be held on Monday, August 31. Did you know, less than 7% of the patients who die from prescription drug overdose ever saw a "dope peddler”, but rather obtained their drugs from medicine chests that most often obtained via prescription from a medical professional. The session, Mitigating Risks for Patients Prescribed Narcotics, sponsored by Quest Diagnostics, will provide specific preventive steps to physicians to ensure patient protection, but their practice and their community as well.

Are you ready? Ready to refuel, engage, and return home with new ideas to strengthen your Health Center's programs, services, and operations? Early bird registration continues through August 19 - take advantage of the discounted rate and we can't wait to see you in 18 days at the 2015 MPCA Annual Conference!

EHR/EDR Assessment Survey

Please take a few minutes to complete a EHR/EDR Survey
