Breast & Cervical Cancer Screening Project Featured Blog

On Friday, October 9, 2015, Michigan Health Centers took center stage on the National Association of Community Health Center's blog. The post, Michigan Project Strikes Blow Against Breast Cancer, featured the work of eight participating Health Centers to boost screening rates for breast and cervical cancer, a project collaboration with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Michigan Primary Care Association.

The project, which began in March 2015, is showing strong results at the midpoint, so much in fact, the project has been extended another year with an increase in funding and an expansion of service sites. For more information on the Breast & Cervical Cancer Screening Project, email Sara Koziel

LGBTQ Training & Education Needs Survey Closing Soon

Michigan Primary Care Association has initiated efforts to increase Health Center engagement in providing care for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) population. National efforts to support LGBTQ population health are supported by both the 
National Association of Community Health Centers and Health Resources and Services Administration.

Please take a moment to complete this 10 minute 
survey to assess your Health Center interest, training, and educational needs regarding the LGBTQ population. The survey will be open until October 20, 2015.

New Market Tax Credits Webinars

Do you understand the pros and cons of New Market Tax Credits (NMTC) enough to know whether you should pursue NMTC financing? Do you know what your Health Center needs to do in order to achieve readiness for NMTC financing?

Capital Link is hosting two webinars focused on NMTC Readiness to help Health Centers understand the NMTC process.  In addition to the two-part webinar, one-on-one technical assistance will be provided. The first webinar, An Introduction to New Markets Tax Credit Financing, will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 2 - 3 pm ET and the second webinar, Achieving Readiness and Closing a New Markets Tax Credit Transaction - Lessons Learned, will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 2 - 3 pm ET. Save the Date - It's Time to Advocate! Access is the Answer Launch

It's once again time to focus on the next steps of the Access is the Answer campaign. On October 20, 2015, at 2 pm ET, the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) Advocacy Team will host a webinar to launch the next set of advocacy action steps as part of the Access is the Answer campaign. 

The registration link will be available soon; however, please send NACHC your activity reports for the current phase of Access is the Answer, so your participation can be acknowledged.


New Requirements for Participation in EHR Incentive Programs Published 

On October 16, 2015, the final rules for the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program and the 2015 Edition Health IT Certification Criteria will be published. The final rule is currently on display in the Federal Register and can be accessed through the links provided.

Advocacy Legalese Webinar

On Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at 2 pm ET, the National Association of Community Health Centers Advocacy Team  will host a webinar, Advocacy Legalese, in coordination with legal experts from Feldsman Tucker Leifer Fidell.

The webinar will focus on what Health Centers need to know to be compliant with IRS, federal, and state regulations when conducting advocacy and civic engagement work.. Presenters will discuss what funding streams may be utilized for advocacy and civic engagement activities as well as the do's and don’ts of advocacy and lobbying as a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity. 

Recommended Regional Managed Care Health Plans Announced


On October 13, 2015, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced the Medicaid Health Plans recommendation for Michigan's Comprehensive Health Plan contract.

The Comprehensive Health Plan provides health care services to approximately 1.7 million Medicaid managed care beneficiaries. 

The new contracts announced will begin on January 1, 2016 and include changes to service area locations and requirements to align with the 
Prosperity Regions as well as a new Medicaid coverage group. The recommended health plans by region can be found here.
