Michigan Health Centers Receive Outreach & Enrollment Funding

On November 13, 2015, the Health Resources and Services Administration awarded approximately $7 million to 93 Health Centers throughout the U.S for outreach and enrollment assistance.

Three Michigan Health Centers received awards to support their work in raising awareness of affordable insurance options and providing eligibility and enrollment assistance to uninsured residents in their communities including Isabella Citizens for Health, Inc., Oakland Integrated Healthcare Network, and Packard Health, Inc.

"Health Centers play a valuable role in providing free health coverage education and application assistance in their communities," said Julie Tatko, Enabling Services Director, Michigan Primary Care Association (MPCA). "MPCA and Michigan Health Centers are committed to increasing access to quality, comprehensive primary and preventive health care services and funding to support outreach and enrollment efforts for Health Centers will enable additional Michiganders to enroll in health coverage available through the Marketplace and Healthy Michigan Plan."

As of November 23, 2015, more than one million consumers made Marketplace plan selections - 34 percent of which are new consumers. In Michigan, 585,095 beneficiaries were enrolled in the Healthy Michigan Plan as of November 16, 2015. The report breaks down beneficiaries by County as well as comparing data from prior year numbers. The report, updated weekly, can be accessed here

Michigan State Loan Repayment Program Application Cycle Begins January 1

It's that time of year once again and student loan repayment program application cycles are all the buzz. This year’s Michigan State Loan Repayment Program (MSLRP) application cycle is open from January 1, 2016 thru April 30, 2016.

The MSLRP helps Health Centers recruit and retain primary medical, dental, and mental health care providers by providing loan repayment. Similar to last year, priority for awards will be given to applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis. For Health Center’s with lower Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) scores, the MSLRP is the best option for your providers. Given the competitive nature of the MSLRP application process, eligible providers with qualifying loan debt, who are interested in participating in the 2016 MSLRP are encouraged to submit their application early in the application period to increase the likelihood of being selected for an award.

If you have additional questions, contact Ryan Grinnell-Ackerman with any questions. Additional information will be available for the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program in future issues of MPCA’s eUpdate.
