Healthy Michigan Plan Second Waiver Advocacy Webinar & Toolkit

On December 1, 2015, the Michigan Primary Care Association held an advocacy webinar for the Healthy Michigan Plan second waiver.

As we prepare for a decision from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, advocacy is focused on awareness and setting the stage, should additional steps need to be taken as a result of the decision.

During the webinar, the Healthy Michigan Plan, past and present status, was shared as well as a communication toolkit for Health Center staff and board members. In addition, beneficiary information was shared and links for resources were highlighted.

The webinar will be posted soon. In the meantime, the presentation slides can be accessed here

Reminder: Michigan State Loan Repayment Program Application Cycle Begins January 1

It's that time of year once again and student loan repayment program application cycles are all the buzz. This year’s Michigan State Loan Repayment Program (MSLRP) application cycle is open from January 1, 2016 thru April 30, 2016.

The MSLRP helps Health Centers recruit and retain primary medical, dental, and mental health care providers by providing loan repayment. Similar to last year, priority for awards will be given to applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis. For Health Center’s with lower Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) scores, the MSLRP is the best option for your providers. Given the competitive nature of the MSLRP application process, eligible providers with qualifying loan debt, who are interested in participating in the 2016 MSLRP are encouraged to submit their application early in the application period to increase the likelihood of being selected for an award.

If you have additional questions, contact Ryan Grinnell-Ackerman with any questions. Stay tuned for updates on National Health Service Corps as they become available.

Reminder: 2015 UDS Training & Finance Officers' Meeting Scheduled

On December 16 and December 17, the Michigan Primary Care Association (MPCA) is holding the 2015 Bureau of Primary Health Care Uniform Data System Training and Finance Officers' Meeting.  The events are held back to back at the Crowne Plaza Lansing West Hotel in Lansing.

The Uniform Data System (UDS) Training will be held on December 17 for a full-day, in-person training covering the preparation of the 2015 UDS Report. The training addresses each of the report’s tables, including a discussion on the changes that have been made and the definitions necessary to complete the report. The training is aimed at those who are responsible for gathering and reporting the data elements included in the UDS Report, as well as management and clinical staff who need to understand the definitions and concepts used and those who use the data in their program management and improvement activities.

The Finance Officers' Meeting will be held on December 16 and is an opportunity for Health Center Finance Officers to discuss finance-related issues as they pertain to Health Centers.
