Access is the Answer: Collect Letters of Support for Your Health Center

There is still much work to be done to ensure adequate funding for Health Centers and to stop the federal funding cliff that looms at the end of Fiscal Year 2015. That's why it is critical that EVERY Health Center participate in the second phase of the Access is the Answer campaign by collecting 5 letters of support from local elected officials and 10 letters of support from community partners by May 31. MPCA Names New Workforce Specialist

MPCA is pleased to announce that J. Ryan Grinnell has been named Workforce Program Specialist. He will be transitioning from his current role as Program Coordinator working with communications and shortage designations. Read more

Healthy Michigan Plan Enrollment Continues Strong

As of April 21, 2014, over 139,770 Michiganders have enrolled in the Healthy Michigan Plan, Michigan's expanded Medicaid program. Enrollment statistics are now updated every Monday at 3 pm and posted on the MDCH website.

Senate Subcommittee Approves FY 2015 DCH Budget

The Michigan Senate Appropriations Subcommittee met April 22 and voted out of committee its recommendation for the Fiscal Year 2015 Department of Community Health (DCH) budget. (The House Appropriations Subcommittee and Full Appropriations Committee already voted on their FY 2015 budget for DCH). Included are significant changes from the Governor’s budget and the House version. Read more

REMINDER: Deadline for MSLRP is April 30

The Fiscal Year (FY) 2015 Michigan State Loan Repayment Program (MSLRP) application deadline is April 30, 2014. Loan repayment agreements for successful FY 2015 applicants will begin on October 1, 2014, and continue through September 30, 2016. Read more

REMINDER: FTCA Deeming Deadline May 23

Program Assistance Letter 2014-03 (PAL) released by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) details the process by which Health Centers must submit Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) applications for Calendar Year 2015. Deeming applications are due by Friday, May 23, 2014.

NHSC 2014 Site Application Cycle Open to New Participants
New sites and sites that have never been approved for the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) can apply through June 16, 2014, at 11:59 pm ET. The NHSC is hosting a new site application assistance conference call on May 1, 2014, at 1-3 pm ET (1.888.391.7045; passcode 2240736). You may also listen to a pre-recorded TA webinar. Content to be presented during the May 1 conference call will mirror information presented on the previously recorded webinar.

The UCLA/Johnson & Johnson Health Care Executive Program (HCEP) provides a unique opportunity for executives of Health Centers and AIDS Service organizations to participate in an 11-day intensive management training session, held annually at UCLA Anderson School of Management. Read more

FDA Proposes New Rule to Regulate E-cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products
Tobacco use continues to be the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States. To address this public health problem, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) proposes extending its authority to cover additional products, including e-cigarettes. Read more
