MPCA Available to Assist with NAP Applications

On July 8, 2014, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services announced the availability of $100 million in New Access Point (NAP) funding to expand access to primary care through an estimated 150 new Health Center sites across the country in 2015. Application due dates are August 20, 2014 ( and October 7, 2014 (EHB). MPCA staff members are available to assist with many aspects of the application, including the Need for Assistance Worksheet. Please contact Andrea Charlton, Community Health Planning Manager, with any questions. Additionally, MPCA is convening a review committee to review any and all parts of applications prior to submission - more information will be available soon. If you would like a letter of support from MPCA for your application, please submit an abstract and a request to Andrea Charlton

Healthy Michigan Plan Surpasses First-Year Enrollment Goal

Governor Rick Snyder announced on July 10, 2014, that after less than four months, enrollment for the Healthy Michigan Plan already had surpassed its first-year goal of 322,000. Each week the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) posts updated enrollment statistics and MPCA provides a county-by-county analysis (scroll to Activate and Enroll > HMP Assister Tools > Healthy Michigan Plan Enrollment Report by County). As of Monday, July 21st, 334,599 Michiganders have enrolled in Michigan's expanded Medicaid program.

Governor Snyder Proclaims Health Center Week in Michigan August 10-16

Governor Rick Snyder has proclaimed Health Center Week in Michigan August 10-16. Health Centers across the state are planning lots of great celebrations - you can check out the list of events on the National Health Center Week website. If you haven't posted your Health Center's event yet, we encourage you to post it today to increase awareness among elected officials and potential sponsors. #NHCW2014


Fifth Integrated Care Demonstration Forum Scheduled for September 11

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) is hosting the fifth forum in a series of public forums to share information about the status of the Integrated Care Demonstration, as well as provide an opportunity for dually eligible individuals, their families, providers, and other interested organizations to provide feedback on the implementation process. The fifth forum is scheduled for September 11, 2014, 10 am-12 pm ET, at Northern Michigan University in Marquette. MDCH is also providing a toll-free conference line for interested stakeholders to participate by phone (250 lines will be available on a first come first served basis). Click here for more information about this forum and to access presentation materials from the previous forums. 

Reminder: Scope Alignment Validation Open Until July 23

The Scope Alignment Validation (SAV) is a one-time opportunity for Health Centers to view their scope of project in the updated Form 5A: Services and Form 5B: Service Sites, and to make limited allowable updates in HRSA's Electronic Handbook (EHB). SAV is open until this Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at 5 pm ET. On July 24, data submitted through SAV will become the official record of each Health Center's approved scope of project for services and sites. Click here for more information and SAV resources.

2013 UDS Data Available in EHB

The 2013 Health Center Program Grantee and Look-Alike National and State Uniform Data System (UDS) data are currently available in HRSA's Electronic Handbook (EHB) for grantees, Look-Alikes, and Primary Care Associations. The 2013 UDS data will be available to the general public online later this summer.

HHS Announces New Prospective Innovation Award Recipients

On July 9, 2014, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell announced the second round of prospective (not yet final) awardees of the Health Care Innovation Awards program. Among the prospective awardees are Altarum Institute, Detroit Medical Center/Vanguard Health Systems, and the University of Michigan. Read more

NACHC Launches Spanish "Campaign for America's Health Centers" Information and Resources

The National Association of Community Health Centers has launched a Spanish language section of the Campaign for America's Health Centers' website. It currently includes basic information about Health Centers and their value, as well as some resources including PowerPoint presentations, social media images and posts, and fliers. There is also a page where individuals can sign-up for a weekly Spanish newsletter. Check it out and come back often, as it’s a work in progress and more resources will be continually added.
