On October 20, 2015, the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) launched a new set of Action Steps for the Access is the Answer Campaign. If you missed the webinar, the slides and audio recording are now available here. The latest Action Steps support ongoing advocacy work focused on Health Center goals and will continue to grow the power and influence of Health Center advocacy across the nation.

For further information, helpful resources, and instructions regarding the action steps for the Access is the Answer Campaign, please visit Campaign for America's Health Centers.

MPCA is especially focused on building the Michigan Grassroots Advocacy Network and would be happy to assist you with materials and to strategize ways to increase involvement in advocacy by staff, board members, and patients. NACHC has provided great templates for your use in pursuing this goal, including template emails to staff (click here to email existing staff and click here to email new staff) and an FAQ/Best Practice document for Health Center staff advocates.

National Rural Health Day Celebrated

Did you know the Michigan Primary Care Association began as the Michigan Association of Rural Health Care (MARHC) in 1978? MARHC was a networking organization of Health Centers and stakeholders who were interested in fostering primary care in rural underserved communities across the state. Then in 1981, with the realization that urban communities also had great health care needs, the MARHC broadened its scope to include urban Michigan communities as well. To better reflect this broadened scope, MARHC changed its name to Michigan Primary Care Association (MPCA).

Celebrating the importance of rural health is not only important in MPCA's history, but in the history of Health Centers, both nationally and in Michigan. On November 19, 2015,
National Rural Health Day will be celebrated. On this day, the uniqueness and charm of rural America and its residents are celebrated, but also to create awareness of the importance of rural health care!

The Michigan Center for Rural Health has created a
toolkit to help build awareness and celebrate successes and achievements in rural health including a sample proclamation, a press release, key messages, and more!

In addition to National Rural Health Day, there are several additional health observances for the month of November including American Diabetes Month and COPD Awareness Month. For more information, visit
