MPCA Welcomes New Clinical Specialist

MPCA is pleased to welcome Sara Koziel, MA to the MPCA staff as Clinical Specialist. Reminder: MPCA Compiling Comments on Mobile Dentistry Documents

As reported in the November 18 issue of the MPCA eUpdate, open for public comment are nine draft mobile dentistry forms and supporting documents released by the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) on November 12. MPCA is preparing a response to the draft forms/resources on behalf of Michigan Health Center dental providers, so please submit comments to Diane Rydahl at by December 5, 2014. The finalized Mobile Dental Forms will be available on the MDCH Oral Health Website.

Desperate Need for Detroit Flood Cleanup Volunteers

The Michigan Community Service Commission is making a final push for volunteers to help southeast Michigan flood victims of the August 11 torrential rain and flooding. There are still 200 homes on a high-priority list created for residents that have requested volunteer assistance. There is a desperate need to provide cleanup before winter sets in for good. Volunteers can sign up at or by calling 2-1-1. Volunteer opportunities are divided into regions of Detroit. Once registered, volunteers will be connected to a volunteer group, which will assist in determining the date, time, and location of volunteer cleanup efforts.


Pertussis Activity in Michigan Remains High

According to a message from the Michigan Health Alert Network, reported levels of pertussis activity remain high in Michigan and several other states. As of November 21, 2014, approximately 1,115 cases were reported, compared to 995 in calendar year 2013. Medical and public health providers are key in assuring proper diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and control. Comprehensive pertussis information is available at


MSA Bulletin Discusses FQHC Reimbursement 

The Michigan Department of Community Health's Medical Services Administration issued bulletin MSA 14-48 to Federally Qualified Health Centers and Medicaid Health Plans on December 1, 2014, discussing FQHCs' reimbursement for services provided for Medicaid and Healthy Michigan Plan beneficiaries. The bulletin also addresses allowable places of service and notification of changes.


Application Period Open for Future Public Health Leaders Program

The Future Public Health Leaders Program of the University of Michigan School of Public Health is a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded program designed to encourage underrepresented college students to consider careers in public health. The program is a 10-week residential summer program that begins in late May and runs through early August 2015. The application is now live and will remain open until January 31, 2015.


HRSA/SAMHSA Innovation Communities Application Deadline December 2

Innovation Communities are groups of up to 35 organizations selected by the SAMHSA-HRSA Center for Integrated Health Solutions to share knowledge and apply learned skills to drive measurable change for a high-priority issue in health care integration. If your organization is interested in joining an Innovation Community, apply by December 2, 2014 (5 pm ET).
