Patient & Board Member | MidMichigan Community Health Services | Houghton Lake, MI
I moved to Roscommon back in 1976 when I was working for the State of Michigan as a wildlife biologist. This job required me to move around a lot, and I often lived in remote areas. When I came to Roscommon I didn't have a physician. Soon after I moved, I had a chainsaw accident and couldn't find health care, even with the health insurance that I had through the state. Someone told me about MidMichigan Health Services. They took care of me and I've been a patient ever since.
I like the comfort of the facility and the staff. The support staff has a lot of longevity. Although I've not had a lot of medical issues, my needs have always been taken care of appropriately.
In 1984 a nurse at the Health Center suggested that I join the Board of Directors. Today I am the longest serving board member, and I served as the chair at one time. Being a board member has been a second career for me. I have a big interest in the health of our community, and enjoy interaction with organizations and other individuals. I can add to the board from a layman's point of view the health care needs of the community.
Share Your Story
Personal stories bring to life the
value of Health Centers and how they benefit patients, families, and
communities, and what they mean to board members, providers, staff, and
volunteers. MPCA invites you to share how the Health Center in your
community has impacted you and your family. If you live in a community
that doesn't have a Health Center but would like to establish one, we
want to hear how it would benefit your neighbors and the community as a
whole. If you work/volunteer for an organization that partners with a
Health Center we want to hear from you, too! Please share with us how
this partnership is powering healthier communities.
Please complete the form below, or you may email your story. We also welcome your photos, a video or audio recording, and typed and handwritten testimonials (mail to MPCA: Faces of MI Health Centers, 7215 Westshire Drive, Lansing, MI 48917). If you need assistance with audio or video recording, please let us know.
