Policy & Advocacy

What Is Advocacy?

Flag and Capitol Advocacy is working to raise public awareness and build support for an issue, such as Community Health Centers. One person who advocates can have a major impact as EVERY VOICE COUNTS. Many people working together can achieve exponentially greater results. Advocacy is taking action, getting involved, participating, and committing. Legislators and policy makers depend on advocates to help them understand issues that deserve their support.

Community Health Centers and their patients need you to advocate for them. Make your voice count by becoming a Health Care Defender today!

What Does a Health Care Defender Do?

  • Read alerts from the Michigan Primary Care Association and the National Association of Community Health Centers to stay up-to-date on the issues affecting your Community Health Center
  • Take action in support of those issues
  • Continually educate your elected officials about Community Health Centers and the services they provide
  • Encourage others to become advocates
  • Take every opportunity to tell your story—to share what your Community Health Center means to you and how it has made a difference in your health and your life
  • Vote in elections and on ballot issues
