Webinar Overview

Widespread disparities exist in the diagnosis, management and outcomes of asthma for inner city children. Some of the specific barriers include lower literacy literacy rates, the limited availability of providers and a lack of reliable transportation. Additional challenges, both inner city and out, include getting providers to implement guideline based care for their asthma patients and most importantly, getting patients to be compliant with their treatment plan. The goals of this webinar series will be to review the key components of childhood asthma.

The first webinar will provide a basic overview of asthma, including existing challenges and barriers, followed by a detailed review of asthma management guidelines.

Part two of the webinar series will focus on asthma and the achievement gap, with a close look at the connection between psychosocial issues and asthma, and the role that specific individuals (providers, schools, parents, child) play in ensuring that children with asthma can show up to school, healthy and ready to learn.
