Enabling Service Forum 2018: Better Health Outcomes Through Social Supports

Join MPCA for a 2-day event, which includes a three-hour poverty simulation conducted by the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM) and a four-hour, next level motivational interviewing course with Cheri Najor. Enabling services provide support that enable individuals to access health care and improve health outcomes in order to supplement clinical care. These services can include case management, referrals, translation/interpretation, transportation, eligibility assistance, health education, environmental health risk reduction, health literacy, and outreach.

The forum will be divided into two days:

  • September 5th will be a full day training focused on a poverty simulation and motivational interviewing part 2.
  • September 6th will be the full one-day conference for all who are interested in learning more about increasing access to care through non-clinical supports.

Poverty Simulation

CEDAM hosts unique and interactive experiences of what it's like to live in poverty. In the poverty simulation, you'll go to work, take care of your family, grocery shop, buy clothing, and look for resources to keep your family afloat for a month.

This continuation of motivational interviewing training will build upon the skills cultivated in part one. Participants will learn how to use motivational interviewing communication strategies to help patients reach their goals within their integrated health setting.

*****Participating Health Homes health centers will be reimbursed for conference registration fee and overnight stays.
