  • C2: HIV and HCV Testing: What's New in the Reference Laboratory?
  • Developments in HIV and HCV therapy have yielded several classes of anti-viral drugs that are effective in reducing the viral burden in infected individuals to “undetectable” levels. Consequently the guidelines for diagnosis, early detection of infection and treatment monitoring have been revised and updated. In tandem with improvements in therapy is the development of new tests for diagnosis, selection and monitoring of treatment.   • C3: Peer Lessons Learned from the HRSA Operational Assessment Process
    Well over half of Michigan’s Health Center organizations have completed their first operational assessment, the HRSA site visit designed to evaluate compliance with all 19 Health Center program requirements. So far, the process has illustrated both strengths and weaknesses in Michigan’s Health Center community including some featured innovative practices and common areas of struggle. Join MPCA staff and Health Center peers for a session focused on sharing observations and lessons learned through facilitated dialogue on operational assessment experiences to date.   • C4: Information Security and Privacy in the World of Health Information Exchanges (HIEs)
    Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) can be an important step for the healthcare industry to take in the ability to share vital patient information between different providers and disparate electronic medical records technologies. Being able to get the necessary information at the point of care to properly diagnose and treat patients can be life-saving. But how are we maintaining the security and privacy appropriately through these integrated systems? What controls are required or being implemented as necessary? Who is in control of this information and how is it being protected? General Session: Public Health Integration into Primary Care and the ACA’s Impact on Health Centers
With the passage of the ACA, $11 billion will be invested in the Health Center program from 2010 through 2015. These funds, along with the implementation of health care reform, will have an impact on Health Centers at the site operational level and more broadly. Associated with the infusion of funds will come expectations for increased access, improved outcomes, and cost savings; a return on investment. What Health Centers do to successfully transition into a more value-based health system will be discussed. Presenters: Robert V.     Branding is an important and vital strategy for Health Centers that want to excel in an evolving health care marketplace. Learn during this session how a Health Center brand was developed, implemented, and marketed in California, and hear about some of the successes and challenges the organizations experienced.     D2: Successful Strategies in Continuity of Care 
    The U.S. health care delivery system has historically been characterized as expensive, inefficient, and fragmented. There is often duplication of services and poor communication between health care providers, leading to unnecessary care and non-optimal patient outcomes. Many solutions have been proposed and piloted, both in Michigan and elsewhere. This session will describe the current health care landscape, provide evidence-based approaches to improving care coordination and continuity of care, and illustrate examples of successful models. Presenter: Jean Malouin, MD, MPH, Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Michigan 
  • D3: Connecting Michigan Veterans to their Earned Benefits
    Learn what veterans in Michigan may be eligible for and how to connect veterans to those benefits.
