LANSING, Mich. – The following statement is attributed to Michigan Primary Care Association’s Chief Executive Officer Kim Sibilsky as it relates to the Michigan Department of Community Health’s announcement that enrollment in the Healthy Michigan Plan will begin April 1.

Michigan Primary Care Association applauds the recent announcement from the Michigan Department of Community Health and Governor Rick Snyder that enrollment for the Healthy Michigan Plan, the state’s expanded Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act, will begin on April 1, 2014.

"Through their tireless efforts to implement the Healthy Michigan Plan, the Michigan Department of Community Health, Governor Snyder, and the Michigan Legislature are ensuring that health insurance coverage is extended to low-income working adults in our state who are most in need because they are currently uninsured or underinsured,” said Kim Sibilsky, Chief Executive Officer, Michigan Primary Care Association. "This is one more step toward ensuring all Michigan residents have access to comprehensive, accessible, and affordable health care, the foundation on which Health Centers were established nearly 50 years ago.”

By having coverage under this innovative plan beginning April 1, nearly half a million Michiganders will ultimately benefit from increased access to primary and preventive health care. This new health insurance program will generate many positive outcomes for a healthier Michigan, including healthier individuals, families, and communities, as well as significant economic benefits for Michigan taxpayers, employers, and the state budget for years to come.

Michigan Primary Care Association looks forward to continuing collaborative partnerships across the state as we support Michigan Health Centers in their work to educate and assist newly eligible Michiganders in enrolling in the Healthy Michigan Plan.
