Michigan Health Centers now have hundreds of skilled staff members serving in outreach and enrollment capacities statewide. Each quarter, MPCA receives an update on the efforts of those staff in assisting eligible patients and community members in getting signed up for health insurance coverage.

During the most recent quarter (April-June 2014), Michigan Health Centers provided 54,158 enrollment assistance encounters for patients and community members. Michigan Health Center staff worked to submit 21,194 applications for coverage and were able to enroll 18,963 individuals. Cumulatively (since July 2013), Michigan Health Centers have provided 135,877 assistance encounters, submitted 42,646 applications for coverage and enrolled 34,658 individuals. Michigan Health Centers’ commitment to outreach and enrollment is certainly evidenced in this impressive effort and tens of thousands of Michiganders have been positively impacted.

Statewide, over 270,000 Michiganders got enrolled during the Health Insurance Marketplace’s first open enrollment period, and to-date Healthy Michigan Plan enrollment is nearing 360,000. The number of children and teens (under age 19) enrolled in Medicaid has increased by just over 58,000 since the first of the year and MIChild enrollment has increased by nearly 4,200 in the last three months. Coverage expansion has had a profound effect on Michigan and it’s conceivable that the number of non-elderly uninsured in Michigan will be cut in half by the end of 2014!
