Lansing, MI, June 25, 2015   Michigan Primary Care Association, the voice for Michigan Health Centers and other community-based providers commends the June 25, 2015, Supreme Court ruling to uphold subsidies for Federal Marketplace enrollees in King v. Burwell.

Today’s ruling is a victory for Americans and especially for those who depend on Health Centers for affordable and accessible health care. Nationally, 6.4 million consumers receive financial help in the form of subsidies in the marketplace. In Michigan, subsidies are available to the 228,000 marketplace enrollees with an average tax credit of $273/month at an average premium after tax credit of $130/month.

“Subsidies provide an opportunity for many uninsured to gain access to primary and preventative care, many receiving insurance for the first time in their lives,” states Kim Sibilsky, Chief Executive Officer, Michigan Primary Care Association. “The Supreme Court ruling not only emphasizes the importance subsidies provide for the uninsured, but enables Michigan residents to continue receiving the necessary primary, preventative, behavioral, dental and pharmacy services the Affordable Care Act provides.”

The ruling affirms what many in the Health Center community believe, in both mission and practice: that all people deserve affordable health care and coverage to ensure good health. Sibilsky adds, “MPCA will continue to focus on building a healthy society in which all residents have convenient and affordable access to quality health care.”
