According to the Kids Count ® Data Book, more than 524,000 Michigan children live in poverty - a number greater than the last full year of the Great Recession.

In 2008, one in five Michigan children lived in poverty; today, the number is one in four.

Michigan ranks 33rd overall and is behind all of its Great Lakes neighbors (Indiana - 32, Ohio - 23, Illinois - 20, Wisconsin - 13, and Minnesota - 1).

The rankings include economic well-being, education, family and community, and health.
