Michigan Primary Care Association, the voice for Health Centers and other community-based providers in Michigan, applauds the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for approving the Healthy Michigan Plan (HMP) second waiver on December 17, 2015.

“On behalf of Michigan Health Centers and the nearly 600,000 HMP beneficiaries in the state of Michigan, I  extend my sincere appreciation to CMS for approving the second waiver as such enabling low-income Michigan residents to continue to receive necessary primary and preventive health care services,” states Kim Sibilsky, Chief Executive Officer, Michigan Primary Care Association. “This appreciation also extends to the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services who worked tirelessly alongside CMS to ensure the Medicaid expansion program continued in Michigan.”

Without approval of the HMP second waiver, low-income Michigan residents would have lost their health care coverage. “Today’s approval from CMS is a victory for the State as well as HMP participants who are not eligible for financial assistance in the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace,” added Sibilsky. “With this approval, HMP will continue to improve the quality of life, quality of health, and the economic viability of all Michigan communities.”

The approval affirms what many in the Health Center community believe, in both mission and practice: that all people deserve affordable health care and coverage to ensure good health. “MPCA will continue to focus on building a healthy society in which all residents have convenient and affordable access to quality health care,” added Sibilsky.
