We Need Your Help!

As the backbone of the health care safety net, health centers provide cost-effective primary and preventive care — including dental, behavioral health services, substance use disorder treatment, vision, and pharmacy — that helps people get and stay healthy. But what you might not know is that health centers don’t just keep people healthy: they also help create a healthy economy. Here in Michigan, health centers employ nearly 6,000 people and help create almost 40,000 jobs throughout the state. Health centers also generate more than $1.3 billion in total economic stimulus, making them economic powerhouses in underserved communities.

But health centers are struggling.

The funding community health centers received under the CARES Act isn't enough to offset the $84.6 million in lost revenue due to fallout from COVID-19.

With unemployment rates at a record high, community health centers will be an even more critical resource to serve our neighbors and their families so that they can continue to access primary care, even if they lose their employer-sponsored insurance plan. Without immediate assistance from Congress:

  • More than 4,800 people will lose jobs in Michigan communities.
  • Over 80,000 patients in the state’s most vulnerable communities, both rural and urban, will lose access to care.
  • Based on the ripple effect of health centers being forced to cut services, local economies will lose an additional $93 million of economic impact.

Do you have two minutes to help save the small businesses that keep entire communities healthy?

Help #SaveTheSafetyNet by calling, emailing, or tweeting to your member of Congress today and telling them that community health centers must be a priority in the next federal stimulus package.
