Medical Receptionist (Patient Care Coordinator)

JOB SUMMARY: Patient Care Coordinator serves patients by greeting and assisting them; scheduling appointments; maintains records and accounts. Working in a team setting, the Patient Care Coordinator will coordinate patient care by providing professional, friendly and exceptional customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Welcomes and greets patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries in a friendly manner.
  • Performs registration and cashier duties
  • Optimizes patient’s satisfaction and provider time by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone.
  • Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying team of patient’s arrival; reviewing schedules; confirming appointments.
  • Comforts patients by anticipating patients’ needs; answering patients’ questions; maintaining safe and clean reception areas.
  • Maintains patient accounts and obtains revenue by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information and collecting patient charges.
  • Performs day to day general office duties, but not limited to word processing, copying, filing, faxing, answering phones and data entry.
  • Ability to navigate the practice management and electronic medical record software
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Presents a professional appearance and approach with patients and staff.
  • Participates in activities promoting professional growth and development.

Corporate Compliance/Security Responsibilities:

  • Upholds all HIPAA requirements in a manner consistent with EJFHC’s policies, professional standards of conduct, state and federal laws/regulations governing FQHC’s.
  • Upholds security responsibilities for the protection of EJFHC IT systems and data, including:
    • adherence to user password guidelines;
    • restraint from leaving workstation unsecured;
    • appropriate use of Internet access while at work and while utilizing EJFHC devices;
    • use of abundant caution regarding phishing emails; and
    • prompt reporting of lost/stolen IT devices.
  • Reports suspected violations of code of conduct, policies, procedures, laws and regulations to a supervisor, the compliance officer or to the anonymous compliance hotline.

General:

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform successfully the essential function of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This position requires hearing sufficient to use a telephone, sitting, standing, frequent bending and stooping, occasional lifting, reaching forward and overhead and walking. May occasionally have to lift office equipment usually not exceeding thirty-five (35) pounds, Eyesight must be adequate to read fine print.

HOURS OF WORK: Established with supervisor

REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Training
High School Diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:

  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to present information to individual and group audiences and field questions with accurate information

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Basic knowledge of office procedures
  • Basic computer skills, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint computer programs and internet-based applications
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and establish priorities with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Ability to work up to ten (10) hours per day and four (4) hours on Saturday if required.
