Outpatient Therapist

The Outpatient Therapist is responsible for providing a wide range of mental health services to facilitate individual psychosocial adjustment for people with mental illness and developmental disabilities to ensure meaningful participation in community life. The Outpatient Therapist is a member of the Center’s integrated care team.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluation and diagnoses of patients from all Center locations.
  • Provides individual, family and group therapy based on the person-centered plan and best practice standards.
  • Provides consultation, referral and treatment coordination as appropriate.
  • Provides consultation and coordination of services with other Center providers and community agencies.
  • Participates in Center and community activities related to prevention, awareness and treatment of mental health.
  • Provides crisis intervention when appropriate.
  • Completes all necessary documentation within 48 hours of client’s scheduled and kept appointment in order to bill for services in a timely manner.
  • Remains current with professional credentialing and knowledge base with the scope of practice.
  • Participates in staff meetings, committees and professional development activities.
  • Participates in quality assurance, process improvement and risk management initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or Limited License Master Social Worker.
  • Current Michigan Licensure for such credentials.

Preferred

  • Experience working with low-income individuals, homeless and/or at-risk populations;
  • Experience working in a mental health or medical care setting.

Position Specific Expectations:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work efficiently in the Center’s EHR to facilitate proper documentation and billing;
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence;
  • Ability to establish rapport with clients, colleagues and community agency representatives;
  • Ability to interact respectfully with diverse cultural and socio-economic populations;
  • Able to follow oral and written instructions;
  • Possesses flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with clients, their family members, staff, and community agencies;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and E-mail.
