SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Director, a Substance Use Therapist is responsible for providing evidence-based practices according to nationally based standards to reduce symptoms and maximize recovery for patients receiving services in our Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program. A Substance Use Therapist providers therapy sessions for individuals with a primary substance use diagnosis or co-occurring disorders who are receiving services in our MAT Program. The Substance Use Therapist ensures that all documentation of patient contact and treatment services is complete, thorough, and accurate to meet all agency, state, CARF and professional standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS including the following.
- Responsible for completing initial SUD Assessments that accurately build on strengths and deficits which result in a DSM diagnosis, ASAM placement recommendation, and/or referrals.
- Completes required clinical (patient charting) paperwork within 24-48 hours and daily for billing.
- Promotes self determination to assure services and support for patients are person centered, person defined, and person controlled.
- Assists patients with treatment planning that highlight important assessment information, define areas of concerns and establish concert goals for treatment.
- Provides effective therapy services including various evidence-based treatment modalities (individual, family and group) as appropriate to patient need.
- Monitors and assess stage of change.
- Works as a member of the MAT team, providing expertise and case consultation.
- Coordinates and documents all necessary paperwork including needs assessment, treatment plan, reviews, annual updates, progress notes, referrals, and all other needs as applicable. Monitors treatment goals and updating as necessary.
- Provides education and encouragement to patient, guardian and support system.
- Facilitates groups and skills training, dual diagnosis, substance use, recovery and other groups as assigned and within their scope of practice.
- Participates as a member of an inter-disciplinary team to review problems and concerns and plan solutions.
- Regular and prompt attendance at work.
- Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Possess Master’s Degree (LMSW, LLMSW, or LLP) with a valid professional license from the State of Michigan with designation as a qualified mental health professional per Medicaid regulations. Must have CADC or higher or must be on a development plan through MCBAP upon hire. One (1) year experience working with patients with mental health disorders and substance use.
